Moderators and Staff

The GHG Experts Network encourages all with an interest in greenhouse gas estimation issues to participate and join. In order to ensure the relevance and quality of exchanges that take place across the network, participation is moderated by knowledgeable experts. As the network grows, moderators with increasingly focused expertise will be added. If you are interested in helping expand the network or serving as a moderator, let us know.

Michael Gillenwater is the Executive Director, moderator, and founder for the GHG Experts Network.

Michael co-established the U.S. Greenhouse Gas Inventory Program within the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). He was lead author of the Inventory of U.S. Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Sinks reports published from 1997 to 2003.

Michael is listed on the rosters of technical experts and is actively engaged in the work of the United National Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and as an author of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) guidelines. He has developed and teaches expert reviewer training courses under Article 8 the Kyoto Protocol as well as an inventory training course for Non-Annex I Parties. He supports the Clean Development Mechanism Methodology (Meth) Panel and was a core advisor to World Resources Institute and the World Business Council on Sustainable Development for the revised edition of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.

Most recently he was Director of the EcoRegistry Program at Environmental Resources Trust (ERT). Michael is currently working on a doctorate at Princeton University while serving as a consultant and advisor to ERT, the UNFCCC Secretariat, and UNDP. Prior to joining ERT, Michael was first with the U.S. EPA’s Office of Policy, Planning and Evaluation and then EPA’s Clean Air Markets Division. He has also worked for Sandia National Laboratories and ICF Consulting’s Global Environmental Issues Group.
